PoDIUM’s Liaison Activities: Sharing, learning and aligning

PoDIUM has actively engaged with a range of European initiatives to ensure its Physical and Digital Infrastructure (PDI) technologies are aligned with broader Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. Through targeted liaison activities, PoDIUM has provided technical input, shared lessons learned, exchanged expertise, solicited feedback and showcased progress on its use cases. These exchanges are instrumental to promote the project’s development and results to the widest audience possible and create fruitful synergies with related projects and activities for the future of connected and autonomous mobility.

Technical exchanges with C-ROADS

On 21 December 2023, PoDIUM presented its overall architecture and C‑ITS message extensions to the C‑Roads Task Force 2 on Service Harmonisation, offering input on the project’s use cases in all three Living Labs. This workshop highlighted shared interest areas between C-Roads and PoDIUM, particularly on certain C-ITS messages used in the use cases, and fostered plans for follow‑up alignment activities. It also proved to be a particularly valuable opportunity to gain industry feedback on the project’s developments. During the workshop, PoDIUM actively sought feedback on the applicability of its C‑ITS message extensions. Questions and discussion points helped refine use‑case specifications to ensure alignment and value for ongoing C-Roads initiatives.

During the PoDIUM Plenary Meeting on 6 November 2024, project partners had the opportunity to exchange with C‑Roads Spain and the SCALE project and provide more detailed input on the demonstrations schedule and on the technical results related to use cases in Spain and Italy. This meeting allowed the establishment of direct contacts for future exchanges at the PoDIUM demonstration sites in Spain for continued collaboration.

Sharing expertise and lessons learned

PoDIUM took part in a wide range of workshop to exchange with related projects and move forward CCAM technologies. For instance, on 30 May 2024, PoDIUM joined a workshop on “PDI, Connectivity and Cooperation for CCAM Solutions” alongside the MODI, TANGENT and AUGMENTED-CCAM projects. The workshop allowed project partners to exchange lessons learned on PDI approaches and connectivity strategies, engaging industry leaders and academics from across Southern Europe and fostering fruitful discussions.

On another occasion in Turin on 27 October 2022, SWARCO hosted a one‑day workshop on future mobility technologies. PoDIUM shared more on the use cases in the Italian Living Lab, gathering insights on manoeuvre assistance for connected vehicles. Fruitful workshops on the commercialisation of CAV technologies for VRU safety provided insights into the needs of business partners and municipalities.

Liaison activities with other industry stakeholders also took place. For instance, PoDIUM took part in the Railgroup “IN‑MOVE” event on 21–22 November 2024, where PoDIUM partner Tenalach Consulting delivered a keynote on PoDIUM’s PDI benchmark for the rail sector, sharing the project’s vision and results to the railway industry, focusing on multi-modality.

These liaison activities have generated mutual interest, facilitated knowledge transfer and established clear paths for continued cooperation. By providing input, exchanging expertise, gathering feedback and sharing tangible progress, PoDIUM has reinforced its contributions to the CCAM community and paved the way for harmonised implementation of PDI technologies.
