PoDIUM was excited to participate in the ITS World Congress 2024, held from 16 to 20 September in Dubai. This premier event brought together leading experts and decision-makers in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to explore the latest advancements and developments in mobility. Organised by our partner ERTICO, the congress featured 170 sessions over five days, covering topics from automated to urban and clean mobility. With Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) at the heart of discussions, PoDIUM spotlighted its high-level platform architecture and its vital role in accelerating CCAM technology.
PoDIUM took centre stage in Special Interest Session 59 on “PDI and communication developments as CCAM enablers”. Organised by Giannis Karaseitanidis (ICCS) and moderated by Nikolaos Tsampieris (ERTICO), the session explored how CCAM can improve traffic efficiency, enhance road safety, and support global climate goals in mobility. The session opened a discussion on physical and digital infrastructure (PDI) advancements, discussing the opportunities and challenges of integrating mobile road users with edge infrastructure and showcasing the latest developments linked to infrastructure-assisted CCAM. High-profile speakers included Maxime Flament (5G Automotive Association – 5GAA), Laszlo Virag (Commsignia), and Raffaele de Peppe (6G Industry Association).
Panagiotis Lytrivis, from our Coordinator ICCS, gave an insightful presentation titled “Multi-connectivity and communications as an enabler of advanced CCAM Services”. He provided an in-depth look at the PoDIUM high-level platform architecture, focusing on the communication layer and the multi-connectivity aspect. His presentation introduces the different types of technologies used in the project and related challenges, such as cellular network, short range, and wired communications. He stressed the importance of addressing communication-related challenges for the successful deployment of CCAM, and the benefits offered by the multi-connectivity approach followed by PoDIUM. Overall, stakeholders’ awareness of CCAM benefits is crucial for achieving broader adoption of these technologies.
