The PoDIUM Final Webinar served as a comprehensive overview of the project’s achievements, key results and lessons learned since its launch in October 2022. PoDIUM demonstrated Physical & Digital Infrastructure (PDI) technologies in real traffic conditions, accelerating the development of Connected Cooperative & Automated Mobility (CCAM). Project partners presented the main outcomes of the five Use Cases demonstrations in the three Living Labs and explored future exploitation of the project results.
The webinar opened with welcome remarks by Sevi Christoforou (ICCS) and a project overview presented by Giorgios Zacharopoulos (ICCS). He provided an overview of the project’s objectives, presented the PoDIUM high-level platform architecture, and outlined the key results achieved and challenges encountered during the project.
Michael Buchholz (Ulm University) then presented the cooperative corridor management use case demonstrated in the German Living Lab in the city of Ulm. The use case demonstrated how connected and automated vehicles and vulnerable road users can safely navigate complex intersections using vehicle-based perception, edge computing and multi-connectivity.
The Spanish Living Lab was then presented, which demonstrated two use cases. Jorge Suárez Luque (ETRA) introduced the Barcelona urban use case, which focused on user-centric, CCAM-enabled traffic management in corridors, involving prioritising emergency vehicles and vulnerable road users. This was followed by Harilaos Vasiliadis (AAE), who presented the use case on real-time responsive PDI for CCAM-enabled traffic management, showcasing continuous and reliable communication between vehicles and infrastructure on a highway replicating cross-border conditions.
The Italian Living Lab included two further demonstrations. Filippo Visintainer (Stellantis-CRF) and Guido Gavilanes (LINKS Foundation) jointly presented the use case on trusted cooperative perception for intersection manoeuvre assistance, highlighting the importance of trusted data from multiple sources to safely pass busy intersections. Paolo Faccin (Autostrada del Brennero) then presented the final use case, focusing on risk management in a highway tunnel and the role of cooperative systems to improve safety and vehicle guidance inside tunnels.
The webinar concluded with business insights and sustainability of the PoDIUM results presented by Ioannis Neokosmidis (INCITES), who discussed the market potential and long-term viability of PoDIUM’s results. Attendees then had the opportunity to exchange with the project partners during a Q&A session with the speakers.
