PoDIUM’s Living Labs continue to bring Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) innovations onto the roads. Following the successful first demonstration event of the German Living Lab in Ulm, the PoDIUM Italian Living Lab is preparing to host its demonstration event in Turin on 15 October.
The Italian Living Lab is deploying two use cases, focusing on improving safety at urban intersections and inside tunnels. These use cases showcase how new Physical and Digital Infrastructure (PDI) technologies can enhance road safety and reliability under complex conditions.
The first use case focuses on improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists at busy crossroads. By combining road sensors, C-ITS infrastructure, traffic lights, and a digital twin, the system delivers trusted data to connected road users, helping them navigate intersections safely while improving trust between vehicles and infrastructure.
The second use case addresses tunnel safety, where satellite signals are unavailable. On the Brenner highway, sensors and a digital twin monitor traffic and assess risks, while innovative positioning systems ensure vehicles can still be located inside the tunnel. This allows connected and automated vehicles to receive real-time warnings and guidance even in confined environments.
The public demonstration on 15 October will gather all PoDIUM partners, as well as external invited stakeholders who will have the opportunity to learn more about these use cases directly from our partners LINKS Foundation, Autostrada del Brennero, Stellantis-CRF, SWARCO, and TIM. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the urban intersection demonstration at Corso Spezia and Via Ventimiglia, and to discover the tunnel highway use case demonstration through a dedicated video presentation.
