About

PoDIUM Project

PoDIUM aims to advance a set of key technologies both in the physical and digital part of the infrastructure to address the challenges in road automation and telecommunications linked with connectivity, cooperation, data management, interoperability and reliability in order to foster the development of advanced Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) solutions.

The project will carry out demonstrations in real-life conditions of specific use cases in three Living Labs in Germany, Italy and Spain, in urban, highway and cross-border environments.

PoDIUM’s final outcome will be a reference architecture that can be applied to various road environments and infrastructure equipment.

Objectives

Define a rich set of demanding Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) use cases to identify and assess connectivity and cooperation enablers and needs.
Specify for each PoDIUM use case detailed requirements and technical performance metrics for availability and performance of connectivity and cooperation (KPIs).
Define methods to ensure the quality and trust of the integrated external data enhancing the environmental perception and meeting the requirements for service interoperability and continuity.
Advance key innovative technologies both in the physical and digital part of the infrastructure to meet the PoDIUM’s use cases requirements.
Define a flexible platform architecture following a “multi-connectivity approach” to integrate the proposed PDI innovations and enable different kinds of CCAM services based on the available infrastructure and road environment.
Test, evaluate and demonstrate advanced CCAM use cases in well-equipped Living Labs (LLs) to examine feasibility and sustainability concepts in real traffic conditions (including cross-border settings).
Create new business models and market services for the innovative use of cross-sector data, including the creation of services linked to the availability of enhanced connectivity and cooperation means.
Promote the project developments to standardisation bodies and policy makers, especially in relation with actions requiring public authorities’ intervention.
Increase road safety for vulnerable road users and reduce automotive carbon footprint by leveraging CCAM using enhanced connectivity and cooperation enablers.
