PoDIUM hosted its second demonstration event on 15 October in Turin, Italy, bringing Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) innovations from research to real-world conditions. Organised with the support of project partners LINKS Foundation, Autostrada del Brennero, Stellantis-CRF, SWARCO, and TIM, the event showcased enhanced safety and reliability in complex traffic environments — from busy urban intersections to tunnels where GPS signals are unavailable.
The highlight of the day was the live demonstration of the Italian Living Lab’s urban Use Case. The demonstration showed how trusted data from multiple sources, including roadside sensors, C-ITS infrastructure, and traffic lights, are fused through a digital twin to help connected vehicles and Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) safely navigate busy intersections. The system provides guidance to the vehicles and VRUs (using a dedicated smartphone app) to cross safely, demonstrating improved coordination and safety between all road users.
Project partners had the opportunity to see the infrastructure, vehicle, and equipment used in the demonstration, witness the Use Case deployed in real traffic conditions, and exchange with the Italian partners on the different technologies involved.
Earlier in the day, presentations from PoDIUM and SCALE partners, including insights from the German and Spanish Living Labs, fostered a collaborative exchange of experiences across the project’s three test sites. Elena Deambrogio from the Municipality of Turin offered a welcome address, followed by technical presentations from the Italian Living Lab partners, who detailed their work on the two Use Cases deployed in the Living Lab.
A video presentation illustrated the second Use Case deployed on the Brenner highway for increased safety, where sensors, digital twins, and advanced positioning systems ensure reliable vehicle tracking and real-time guidance and safety alerts, even inside tunnels without satellite signals.
The following day, 16 October, partners convened for the project’s 7th plenary meeting at the LINKS Foundation premises. The discussions focused on the final phase of the project, covering preparations for the Final Event, completion of the last technical tasks and deliverables, and the overall wrap-up of activities before the project concludes in December 2025.
Join us for the next and final stop in PoDIUM’s journey: the project’s Final Event in Barcelona on 19 November 2025.
